  3. Corbyn plea to PM over Redcar steel plantpublished at 14:42

Jeremy Corbyn says the Tories' "economic failure" means the economy works for "the few, not the many". He accuses the government of failing to stand up for Britain's steel industry - and says it is Labour who is on the side of the workers at Redcar plant in Teeside, which is to be mothballed with the loss of 1,700 jobs.

  5. Heeding advice?published at 14:39

Continuing with the human rights theme, he criticises Conservative plans to repeal the Human Rights Act and says its proposed trade union reforms are an attack on people's human rights.

Changing subjects he says he's been listening to a lot of advice on how to do the job, remarking that there's been a lot of it around. He's been told never to repeat your opponents' lines in a political debate, he says - but seemingly shunning that advice, he quotes the Tory attack line that Labour is a threat to family and national security.

"How dare you" say that, he says, and accuses the Conservatives of being the very thing they claim Labour to be.

  8. Corbyn on human rightspublished at 14:36

Jeremy Corbyn says he's been championing human rights as a backbench MP for 30 years, and even before then. Now he's leader, he won't stop standing up for those issues, he tells the Labour conference. In a message to David Cameron ("I hope he's listening, you never know") he says: Intervene directly to stop the killing by Saudi Arabia of Ali Mohammed Baqir al-Nimr and terminate the Ministry of Justice bid to provide prison services to the country.

  11. 'A vote for change'published at 14:33

    Jeremy Corbyn

Jeremy Corbyn says his election was "a vote for change" in the way politics is done - within Labour and the wider country - to make it "kinder and more inclusive, bottom-up and not top-down". Under his leadership Labour will "unapologetically" be challenging austerity and the way the economy is run. That's met with a big cheer from parts of the hall. Internationally, Labour will be a voice for engagement and partnership with those that share Britain's values, he adds.

  12. Corbyn: Listening is leadershippublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 29 September 2015

More thanks from Jeremy Corbyn - to the talented colleagues in his shadow cabinet which he declares an "inclusive team" that "gives us the right foundation for the open debate our party must no have about the future". He says he doesn't want to "impose leadership lines", saying no-one has a monopoly on wisdom and ideas. "I will listen to everyone," he says.

The Labour leader thanks his predecessor, Ed Miliband - who also gets a round of applause - and praises him for his courage and dignity in the face of "tawdry" media attacks. He also extends his tributes to Harriet Harman, the interim leader during the election process, highlighting her work on social equality. Ian McNichol, Labour's general secretary, also gets a shout out. So too, do his rival candidates in the Labour leadership contest.

  15. Corbyn on Labour membershippublished at 14:29

Jeremy Corbyn provides further examples of some of the less favourable, shall we say, media coverage of him. Moving on, he says Labour has increased its party membership since the leadership contest, which meets with applause in the room. He welcomes all new members to the party. He says Labour will be taking the fight to the Tories, and will lead its fightback in the local elections next year.

    Jeremy Corbyn

It's time. Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn takes to the stage, amid a standing ovation, to deliver his first speech to the party conference since being elected to the role. And it's a packed-out hall he's addressing. He momentarily joins in the clapping before beginning his speech. "Any chance we could start the speech," he says, and laughs.
