    At the top of the baton is a granite "gemstone", which will be given to each nation and territory.

    Housed at the very top of the baton, it is released by opening a puzzle mechanism. The gemstones have been crafted out of rock quarried from Ailsa Craig in the Firth of Clyde.

    The baton relay is the main curtain-raiser for the Commonwealth Games, which are being held in Glasgow between 23 July and 3 August.

    After visiting the Commonwealth countries in Asia, the baton enjoyed some sunshine as it travelled through Oceania, Africa, the Americas and the Caribbean, before making its way back to Europe.

    By the end of the relay, its journey will have lasted 288 days and travelled more than 118,000 miles (190,000km).

    The relay is currently in Portobello, before moving on to Duddingston then back into the city centre for an end of day celebration at the Ross Bandstand at around 19:20.

    Prior to that, at approximately 17:45, the baton goes into Glasgow 2014 venue the Royal Commonwealth Pool for a diving display.
