    Angus Council tweeted this picture of bunting, and said: "Getting ready for #batonrelay ... beautiful bunting in sunny Angus...fingers crossed for same on Sat 28 for #QBRAngus."

    The relay in Scotland - the final countdown to Glasgow 2014 - will last 40 days - with with about 400 people carrying the baton each day.

    Alec received a stunning 17 nominations to carry the baton today. It is clear he has made a huge impact on the younger generation of Annan. He is tireless in his support of pupils at Annan Academy and has also volunteered for over 300 Duke of Edinburgh expeditions.

    Well done Alec, what an inspiration.

    Billy Green (pictured left) is running with the baton, he has coached Dumfries Junior Curlers for many years. The 78-year-old spends much of his time promoting and encouraging others into the sport.

    Large crowds have now gathered in Kirkcudbright as the baton relay continues.

    Hundreds of people also gathered earlier today to welcome the baton in Langholm and Dumfries in glorious sunny weather.

    Andrew Webster was nominated for his contribution to sport and the positive impact he has made in his home town, Dalbeattie. Ten years ago he set up a small running and cycling race, and the event has been so successful it now attracts runners from all over the country.

    Husband and wife tennis team Eileen and Geoff Legg were nominated for their tireless commitment to Castle Douglas Tennis Club. Eileen's Monday morning tennis sessions have become a firm favourite among the club members, according to the people that nominated her.

    Geoff, an accomplished tennis player who has played at Wimbledon, has been key to the promotion of tennis in southern Scotland for 35 years.
