    Christine Calvert, the Secretary of the Langholm Town Band, emailed in.

    The band was playing this morning with Langholm Pipe Band as the Queen's Baton Relay passed through the town.

    She described it as an "amazing experience".

    She added: "Very proud of our small town and everyone involved, from the Cornet Dale Irving bringing the baton down the Kirk Wynd and the atmosphere in the Town Square when David Stevenson brought the baton along the High Street.

    "Finally, Highland Cathedral played by both bands finished off the morning in the best way possible. This is a morning I will remember for a long time."

    Glasgow 2014, the organisers of this summer's Commonwealth Games, have some quick facts about the event:

    • The Queen's Baton was honoured with a national holiday when it arrived on the tiny island of Nauru. When BBC Queen's Baton Relay presenter Mark Beaumont was there covering the event, he ran around the whole country in two hours.

    • The official Glasgow 2014 tartan was designed by Glasgow schoolboy Aamir Mehmood.

    • Athletes who will compete at this year's marathon will cross the River Clyde four times.

    Every local authority in Scotland has been paired with at least one Commonwealth nation or territory by sportscotland, in a bid to encourage locals to support a second team at Glasgow 2014. Dumfries and Galloway is paired with Northern Ireland and Grenada.

    When the baton was in Grenada, the BBC team covering the relay interviewed Kirani James - one of the stars of world athletics - as he looked forward to competing at Glasgow 2014 and eating some haggis.

    The baton was also welcomed in Northern Ireland last month.

    Teenager Hayden Keir, who has autism, was the youngest member of the Dumfries and Galloway Special Olympics team at the Bath games last year. He carried the baton wearing his kilt, and showed off the three medals that he won at those games.
