While the so-called 'weather bomb' batters Scotland's west coast and the far north, it is fair to say many of the Scots who have taken to Twitter to discuss the weather have been doing so in jest over the lack of stormy weather on their doorsteps.

The organisers of Edinburgh's Christmas celebrations have announced on Facebook, external what attractions are closed as a result of the adverse weather.
While Santa Land, the Star Flyer, the Big Wheel and the East Princes Street Gardens Double Carousel are currently shut, the markets and the ice rink are open for usual.
It seems it will take a bit more than some very strong winds to dampen the Christmas spirit in the capital.

Argyll Ferries has resumed an hourly service between Gourock and Dunoon.
Meanwhile all sailings on the Oban to Craignure route have now been cancelled for today due to high winds.

Cairngorm Mountain ski centre says wind speeds of 80mph have been recorded at the top station of the Cairngorm Funicular Railway.
Gusts of 100mph were recorded at the station on Tuesday.
The railway is closed because of the weather.

The Vatersay and Eriskay causeways on the Westerns Isles have been closed.
The causeways, which help to link up roads on the islands, have been overtopped by waves.

Highest low-level gust so far was 79mph at Benbecula say the Met Office, who expect winds to peak early afternoon before easing very slowly.
A number of vehicles which had become trapped at the Cairn 'O Mount in Aberdeenshire have been freed.
Around 20 were stuck on the Banchory to Fettercairn route due to ice.
A gritter was sent to the scene.

There are a number of alterations and cancellations to train services today. Customers are being advised to check the ScotRail website, external before they travel.
Jacqueline Dey, Operations and Safety Director at ScotRail, said: "We will continue to work with Network Rail throughout the day and for example, if the high tide which is due about 14:30, if it was subsiding earlier, we would be able to reinstate the trains between Kilwinning, Largs and Ardrossan.
"So anywhere Network Rail can confirm the lines are clear, we will then start to put the services back in."

Alastair: I live on West coast north of Ullapool, wind at 4am was 74 mph now down to about 40 mph this is just a winter gale.
Shetland coastguard say a lifeboat is expected to arrive to escort a damaged fishing boat to shelter in North Sound.
A wave hit the bridge of the trawler knocking out several windows. Weather conditions are described as severe with waves bigger than the boat.
The Shetland coastguard helicopter, which was at the scene, was forced to land on Westray because of lightning in the area.
