Shifting focus momentarily away from the "weather bomb" coverage, the Scottish Sun leads with the headline "Hunt for Spy Sub".

    compo

It says an international sea hunt was launched after a spy submarine was spotted close to the Faslane nuclear HQ.

Meanwhile, The National's front page says: "The VIP witness at our historic same-sex marriage... the first minister."

It says Nicola Sturgeon will be present when civil partners Susan and Gerrie Douglas-Scott finally get to tie the knot in Glasgow on Hogmanay.

Jacqueline Dey, Operations and Safety Director at First ScotRail, says unaffected rail services have "started well" this morning.

Speaking on BBC Radio's Good Morning Scotland programme, she added: "We have replacement buses between Kilwinning, Largs and Ardrossan; and between Dumbarton and Helensburgh.

"We've also secured buses between Inverness and Dingwall. We're dealing with our supplier to see, once the roads are considered to be clear, where we could put additional buses on."

Stromness lifeboat has been called out after a Spanish fishing boat radioed in a Mayday after being hit by a large wave off the west coast of Orkney.

It is understood the wheelhouse windows of the trawler were smashed in the incident. The exact position of the fishing boat is not known but coastguards say that it will take the lifeboat some time to reach the vessel.

  7. Western Isles blackoutpublished at 07:26 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2014

The whole of the Western Isles are without power.

About 17,000 customers have no electricity. SSE say they hope to have fixed the fault by 10:30.

Hundreds of homes have also been affected by power cuts in the Highlands and in West Lochaber.

  8. Met Office updatepublished at 07:22 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2014

Ken McEwan, from the Met Office, told Radio Scotland's Good Morning Scotland programme that most of the country will see more of the same weather throughout the day, with the north west and Northern Isles worst affected.

He said: "The bulk of the country will see mean speeds of about 35-40mph, with gusts of 50 or 60mph but in the showers today the winds will get up quite readily to up to 70mph gusts and there will be the odd gust of up to 80mph in the showers.

"Far west coastal fringes and round the north west and Northern Isles and Western Isles of Scotland will see stronger winds, almost violent storm force and we'll see gusts certainly around the 80mph mark, particularly in those gusty showers. I wouldn't rule out some gusts of 90mph in the far north west."

He added that it would take a while for the storm to clear.

"It's going to be a very slow process, that is a really large area of low pressure and it's only slowly moving east wards so we'll keep in that very strong wind flow today, tonight and tomorrow.

"It will slowly ease tomorrow and we will eventually see a reduction in the showers later tomorrow with the winds coming down."

  10. Travel warningpublished at 07:17 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2014

Inspector Bryan McGeogh, from Police Scotland, said: "I would advise people to travel with caution across the country.

"Very high winds are expected which could impact on the road network, rail travel, ferries and bridges and driving in these conditions could be particularly hazardous."

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) said the "exceptionally strong winds and tidal surge" were expected to produce unusually high tides and large waves along the west coast of the country.
