  3. SNP performance analysed by Professor Curticepublished at 04:44 British Summer Time 6 May 2016

    Professor John Curtice
    Polling expert

There appears to be a clear link between the size of the vote for YES in the 2014 independence referendum and the performance of the SNP.

So far the SNP vote is up on average in those constituencies where 45% or more of the electorate voted YES in 2014, whereas it is down on average in places where less than 45% did so.

The domination of much of the campaigning on the issue of a second independence referendum may not have done the SNP much good.

  6. Prof Curtice on a tail of different leaderships....published at 04:42 British Summer Time 6 May 2016

    Professor John Curtice
    Polling expert

Ruth Davidson has emulated Willy Rennie's success in using the position of leader to make an unexpected gain of a seat.

Kezia Dugdale's failure to emulate their success is bound to add to the question marks about the success she has made of her role as leader.

  7. Brian Taylor analysis of the Conservative resultspublished at 04:39 British Summer Time 6 May 2016

    Brian Taylor
    BBC Scotland Political Editor

Another Conservative victory in Aberdeenshire West. Very good night for them.

Perhaps justifies Ruth Davidson's decision to major on defence of the Union.

Perhaps adds to questions for Labour - who mostly avoided the constitution.

Earlier... Smile until your jaws ache, Ruth Davidson advised her candidates at the manifesto launch.

She has just followed that advice in winning her Edinburgh seat.

Adds to a very good night thus far for the Tories.

She said it was sending a message to the SNP
