    Speaking from Kirkwall he says this has been a "remarkable campaign".

    Mr Gray says clearly it was a bad result here and in other areas last year so it would be a good result to keep his seat.

    Reacting to Scottish Labour's Thomas Docherty's comments, Mr Gray said he completely disagrees with him and thinks party leader Kezia Dugdale has run a strong campaign.

    Lord Andrew Dunlop, a Conservative Minister at the Scotland Office, says people do not know what Labour stands for. 

    That is a sentiment I have heard expressed - but by key Labour figures.

    They believed the programme they set out at this election - increased tax and public spending - might begin to address that dilemma.

    Scottish Labour's Thomas Docherty says all the early indications are that his party has gone further backwards.

    Mr Docherty says the indications tonight and from the opinion polls are that people are swinging towards the Scottish Conservatives.

    It's early in the counting process and many things could happen over the next few hours.

     But so far it looks like the SNP are on course for another victory - the main question being how much they will win by. 

    The Conservatives are confident and think it's possible they could overtake Labour in terms of seats. A Labour source did not ruled that out. 

    It appears there could also be a race for fourth place. 

    The Lib Dems think they will keep their two constituency seats.
