The former dentist lost the seat in the general election in 2015.
SNP MSP Mike Russell takes the oath and then repeats it in Doric and Gaelic.
Mike Russell won Argyll and Bute for the SNP with a reduced share of the vote.
Mr Russell was elected as a regional member for the South of Scotland to the Scottish Parliament when it was established in 1999 and in 2011 became the constituency MSP for Argyll & Bute where he has lived for 25 years.
Mr Ruskell begins by saying: "In my heart my allegiance is to the people of Scotland."

Mr Paterson joined the SNP in 1967 and has worked in all campaigns since.
He was first elected as an MSP in 1999.
