Environment Secretary Roseanna Cunningham says the Scottish government has remained committed to following the expert advice of the Committee on Climate Change (CCC).

Ms Cunningham commits to keeping the link between that expert advice and the way ahead.

She says the CCC has committed to undertake more work on interim targets, having originally recommended 70% by 2030.

Mr Ruskell asks if taking that advice is not "selling out future generations", as it only gives a 50% chance of limiting the rise in temperature to 1.5 degrees.

The minister says the government will support the Labour amendment setting the target of cutting emissions by 75% by 2030.

She points out 70% would have been the most ambitious in the world, let alone the now accepted 75%.

The minister urges MSPs to back Labour's amendment and reject the one from the Greens.

The Climate Change Bill will set in law a target to cut Scottish greenhouse gas emissions to net-zero by 2045.

Ministers upped an interim goal to cut emissions by 75% by 2030, compared to 1990 levels, ahead of Wednesday's vote.

They had faced calls from campaigners and opposition parties to do more to tackle the "climate emergency".

    Labour MSP Claudia Beamish

The Scottish government has agreed to an emissions reduction target of 75% from 1990 levels by 2030.

Environment Secretary Roseanna Cunningham has said she thinks of the opportunities rather than the sacrifices this higher target will bring.

However, she has said she’ll need to go back to climate change scientists who’d said 75% was achieveable to work out how to make this happen.

The Scottish government will commission new advice from the Committee on Climate Change on the UK wide pathway to 2030.

A Citizens’ Assembly on Climate Change will be created to make recommendations to ministers on how Scotland’s net-zero transition should be achieved.

The Scottish government has said the new 2045 target in the Climate Change (Emissions Reduction Targets) (Scotland) Bill, external will put Scotland at the forefront of climate actio.

This morning ministers upped the interim goal to match Ms Beamish's call, ahead of tonight's vote.

The headline net-zero target is not being disputed by any of the amendments lodged - though there will be some arguments over the interim targets.
