BBC Wales weather forecaster Derek Brockway says north and west Wales may escape the worst of the snow, but as our picture shows, Llanuwchllyn in Gwynedd, has also had a covering.
"These red warnings are very rare. The Met Office doesn't push them out too often. There's very severe weather on the way and it's going to get worse later this afternoon."

This means extreme weather is expected and people should take action to keep themselves safe.

Snowmageddon? Beast from the East? Or just winter?
The Met Office has upgraded its warning for Wales to red.
A red weather warning is the most serious kind of weather warning that the Met Office can issue.
It means that risk to life is likely and that the weather will cause damage - for example, to buildings and roads.
Scene: You open your curtains in your toasty warm house and see 6in of snow.

More than 700 schools are shut across Wales – in Blaenau Gwent, Neath Port Talbot, Cardiff, Vale of Glamorgan, Caerphilly, Bridgend and Ceredigion. Parents have been advised to check for updates on councils’ websites.
Meanwhile, all University of South Wales campuses will be shut for the day.
Arriva Trains Wales says it is running a temporary amended timetable on Cardiff Valleys and local services.
Also, there will be no service between Cardiff Central and Manchester Piccadilly before midday.
People have been advised to check before they travel.
