    A woman who was in the apartment building that was the focus of the earlier police raids has described her terrifying ordeal.

    The woman, who on the floor below the raided flat, said she hid in the bathroom but there were so many explosions she thought the ceiling was going to collapse.

    She said she heard gunfire, screaming, and people shouting 'shoot, shoot'.

    There was a huge police presence in Saint Denis on Wednesday morning as an operation against suspected militants holed up in an apartment in the suburb concluded. 

    Between 15,000 - 20,000 people living in the area are still being advised by the French Interior Ministry to stay at home. 

    Seven people were arrested in the raid, police are quoted by the AP news agency as saying.

    A woman died after detonating a suicide vest and a man is also reported to have died. Several police officers were injured and a police dog killed.

    Turkish police say they have detained eight Islamic State suspects who they claim were bound for Germany, BBC Monitoring reports.

    The Istanbul counter-terrorism squad says eight Moroccans were detained at the city's airport after they arrived from Casablanca and their story of being tourists with an Istanbul hotel booking did not check out. 

    A document found on one of the suspects reportedly shows a planned route to Germany through the Turkish city of Izmir, Greece, Serbia and Hungary, Anatolia news agency says.

    Two Air France flights heading from the United States to Paris diverted because of security threats. One landed in Halifax in Canada, the other was diverted to Salt Lake City in the US state of Utah. 

    Air France said the flights received anonymous threats after they had taken off. Salt Lake City International Airport spokeswoman Bianca Shreeve tells the BBC: "We are still researching exactly what happened, where the call came from, I assume that there will be more information in the coming days. But for now we know that the diversion was due to a phoned bomb threat."

    The main French Muslim umbrella group says it will ask the 2,500 mosques in the country to condemn "all forms of violence or terrorism" in prayers this Friday.

    The message will condemn such acts "unambiguously", the French Muslim Council says, according to Ouest-France newspaper.

    DNA samples are being taken from those who were arrested, France 2 TV station says. It reports that the Saint Denis operation began because of intelligence that an attack was being planned in the La Defense business quarter of Paris. 

    A French soldier was stabbed in the neck in May 2013 in La Defense and survived. The attacker was a convert to Islam who had "wanted to attack a representative of the state" prosecutors said.
