    Andy Hibbs

  12. School closed after water leak: Roofing material 'cracked in hot weather'published at 15:09 British Summer Time 28 June 2017

    BBC Radio Jersey

St Brelade Deputy Graham Truscott has said Les Quennevais School is "past its sell-by date" after seeing the water damage caused by heavy rain earlier today.

The school will be closed for two days for repairs.

    Quote Message

It seems that due to the hot weather the roofing material has expanded and cracked, that's obviously resulted, since the heavy rain last night, of water being let into the building. Three tiles came down in the early morning, luckily nobody was under them. The water has affected the electrics in three main areas, the hall, the gym and the canteen. It's been quarantined off so no-one can access it. Health and safety is of paramount importance.

    Naomi Dunning

Earlier team Jersey were being entertained by cyclist Richard Tanguy on the radio, who was out on the course.

He was waiting for the women cyclists to finish their road race, and decided to have a sing into the Walkie talkie.

    The song?

Tina Turner's "Simply the best". We'll have to see if Jersey comes out on top today to find out.

  15. Guernsey's Watts: Tight peloton made it difficultpublished at 14:26 British Summer Time 28 June 2017

    Rob Byrne
    BBC News Online

Guernsey's highest-placed cyclist in today's road race said she was "disappointed" with a fifth place finish.

However, Joanna Watts said she was pleased with her team's overall effort - her fellow Guernsey riders placing 12th, 16th and 20th, respectively.

The leading riders were tightly packed throughout the race, with the top 25 cyclists crossing the finish line in just seven seconds, something Watts said made it difficult.

    Quote Message

You had to have your wits about you. There were a lot of riders and a lot of elbows being shoved in your face and a few people ending up in the gutter occasionally."

  18. RNLI reinstate Andy Hibbs and offer full apologypublished at 14:02 British Summer Time 28 June 2017

The RNLI has issued a full apology to Andy Hibbs after sacking him and then reinstating him to the role of coxswain of the St Helier lifeboat.

He was asked to stand down in April over claims he failed to follow the RNLI code of conduct. This prompted the 25-strong crew to also stand down in protest.

Mr Hibbs appealed the decision and the RNLI accepted his appeal, admitting it did not meet the high standards of support and fairness it should have given to Mr Hibbs.

The charity says Mr Hibbs admitted his behaviour was not always in keeping with the RNLI's expectations and he has agreed to sign their volunteer code of conduct.

The charity says they are employing a full time station manager to support the crew.

  19. Table tennis: Singles medals last hope for Alderneypublished at 13:52 British Summer Time 28 June 2017

    Oscar Pearson
    Reporting from Sodervarnshallen

Alderney managed to pick up four sets and one match in their table tennis doubles today, but it's not enough to advance to the knock out stages.

It means they fall at the first hurdle and won't advance through their groups.

There were defeats to Greenland, Åland and the Isle of Man in the mixed doubles. The ladies lost to Gotland and Guernsey, but defeated Gibraltar to finish third in their group. And the men lost to the Isle of Wight, Jersey and finally Åland - picking up one set in that last match.

It means their hopes of a table tennis medal now hinge on the singles matches - which continue later on this afternoon.
