  3. 'Don't use salt to clear snow from driveways and paths'published at 08:19 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2018

    BBC Radio Guernsey

Islanders are being urged to avoid using salt to clear snow from driveways and pathways.

Guernsey Water said salt isn't used to clear Guernsey's roads because it can easily get into the island's water supply.

Margaret McGuinness, from the service, says people should look for "alternative methods" to clear snow.

"We depend on surface water, we have no ground water so we have to collect all our water from the surface, from the rain, storage in the quarries. So we don't want salt to get into the areas that we collect. Avoid salting if you possibly can."
