Colchester Castle Park death: Victim named

A man who died after being found with severe injuries in an Essex park has been named by police.

James Attfield, 33, of East Bay, Colchester, had injuries to his head, upper body and hands when he was found in Castle Park early on Saturday.

Paramedics tried to save him, but he died shortly afterwards.

Police believe a bladed weapon was used in the attack and are treating his death as murder.

Senior investigating officer Simon Werrett, said: "Castle Park is used at all hours of the day and night and I'm sure someone will have seen something.

"I really need to hear from anyone who saw anybody acting suspiciously in the park, anyone who heard anything untoward, or anyone who thinks they may know who is responsible for Jim's death."
