Kate Prout murder: Husband reveals Redmarley farm grave
- Published
A husband who murdered his wife in 2007 has been back to the farm where they lived to show police where he buried her body.
The body of Kate Prout, 55, of Redhill Farm in Redmarley, Gloucestershire, was never found despite extensive searches.
Her husband Adrian was jailed for life in February 2010 for the murder following a trial. Police said he had now admitted the killing.
Prout was taken to the farm on Friday to point out the location of the body.
He was handcuffed to a police officer and driven into woodland in a 4x4 vehicle. He was driven away from the 276-acre farm a short time later.
'Closely guarded'
Det Supt Simon Atkinson, of Gloucestershire Police, said a "detailed" search would now take place.
"This will be a painstaking process so is likely to take some time," he said.
"The scene will be guarded throughout the weekend.
"We are keeping Mrs Prout's family updated and fully informed of developments.
"The investigation into Kate Prout's death was challenging and complex, and ultimately led to Adrian Prout's conviction. This latest piece of information does not change that."
He added that officers' "main priority" was now to find Mrs Prout's body to allow her family "to have some closure after the long ordeal they have been through".
On Thursday, police said they had received "significant" new information about the case and officers began a search of woodland at the farm.
Officers were guarding the main gate while others were seen driving at the farm in 4x4 vehicles.
Paths around the farm have also been sealed off.
Former teacher Mrs Prout disappeared the day after she asked her husband for a £800,000 divorce settlement.
The last time anyone heard from her was on 5 November 2007 when she called her bank, First Direct.
The police search for her body was eventually suspended, pending new evidence.
In a statement on behalf of the family, Richard Wakefield, Kate Prout's brother, said: "We have always wanted Adrian to tell us where Kate's body is, however this news has obviously come as something as a shock to us."
Adrian Prout, who owned a pipe-laying business and commercial pheasant shoot, had said he would need to sell £1.2m Redhill Farm to pay the settlement.
Instead, he offered her £600,000 plus maintenance.
Prout reported his wife missing on 10 November. Her wallet and credit cards, shoes and clothes were all left behind.
Since Prout's conviction, his fiancee Debbie Garlick, with whom he has fathered a child, has been behind a campaign to clear his name.
In 2010, a £10,000 reward was offered for information that would have led to his release.
A year ago, Mrs Prout's brother, Richard Wakefield, made a plea to her killer to reveal the location of her body.
