Sefton Council asks for public for input over £20m cuts

People who live in the Sefton Council area are to be asked their opinion over the scope of £20m worth of budget cuts.

The budget for April 2012 to April 2013 will be set in March with the council saying it must outline a plan to cut £20m from its budget by then.

Councillors approved £1m of cuts without objection, which involved paying less interest on council debt.

The three-month public consultation, to decide which public services will be affected, begins next week.

Council leader Peter Dowd said: "The broader issues, things that can affect everybody, people can write into their councillors, into the chief executive, they can make their approaches in a whole number of ways."
