Alain de Botton: 'We should rebrand tax as charity'

The word tax, according to philosopher Alain De Botton, is "colourless, odourless and offensive". So should the secular world pick up some useful lessons from the religious world and rebrand tax as "charity"?

He said politicians had to work harder to show people where their money is going and stop tax looking like a punishment.

After his film was shown, he debated the ideas with Andrew Neil, Michael Portillo and Alan Johnson.
