Tax office should send thank-you note, says Alain de Botton

Philosopher Alain De Botton said the tax office should send a thank-you note for the money paid by British people. He also said they deserve to see a pie chart showing how their money was spent, making it easier to highlight waste.

He was debating his This Week film - making a case for people to look forward to paying tax - with Andrew Neil, Michael Portillo and Alan Johnson on the public attitude to paying tax and giving money to charity.
