Michael Ignatieff on UKIP, Labour and Mark Carney

Sovereignty needs to be regained and politics must deliver a system for people who vote, said the academic, broadcaster and former politician Michael Ignatieff.

The former Harvard professor said politicians only have around 90 seconds for the public to make up their mind about them.

He offered a view on UK politics including the rise of UKIP, Labour's chances at the 2105 general election and Scottish independence, but added "my career was not the biggest success" as he led the Liberal Party to a poor result in the 2011 Canadian election.

And he described fellow countryman Mark Carney who is about to take over as Bank of England governor as a devoted public servant and the "smartest central banker in the world".
