Police searching for David O'Halloran have traced the taxi seen heading through Bridge of Allan minutes before the missing student was last seen.
They now hope to find the passengers of the vehicle, which was spotted at about 02:14 on Friday 18 January.
Ch Insp Russell Penman said: "The passengers of this vehicle were picked up at Dusk and dropped off near to the golf club in Bridge of Allan.
"We are keen to speak to them as they may have seen him."
Central Scotland Police had released CCTV images of the taxi last month.
"There is no further information on David's movements and we are keen to hear from anybody who may have seen him around 2.19am on Henderson Street in Bridge of Allan on Friday 18 January," added Ch Insp Penman.
The 18-year-old mathematics student went missing after a night out with friends in Stirling after work.
He left a nightclub at about 01:00 in a taxi but got out of the vehicle before returning to his accommodation at Stirling University.
The student was spotted by drivers near the university, but the final sighting of him is in Bridge of Allan.
