Wick schools merger plan approved by Scottish government

A plan to merge several schools in Wick that was opposed by some parents has been approved by the Scottish government.
The proposal to replace four primary schools with two new buildings had been called in by Education Secretary Michael Russell.
He has told Highland Council that it can proceed with the plan.
A new primary to serve the north of the town will cost about £10.5m and one for the south about £9.2m.
The plan will see the merger of Hillhead and North primary schools on the North primary site.
Hillhead Parents' Council had opposed the move, claiming the proposal lacked detail.
South and Pulteneytown primaries are to be amalgamated on a new campus for three to 18-year-olds at Wick High School.
