Work on the site of a controversial new road bridge in Aberdeen is under way.

The so-called third Don crossing will link the Bridge of Don and Tillydrone, aimed at improving access in the north of Aberdeen.

Tree felling has got under way in the Gordons Mills Road area

The bridge was given the go-ahead last year after the council's ruling Labour party - which had long been against the bridge - dropped its opposition.

Tree felling began at Gordons Mills Road on Monday morning.

A contract for the construction phase will be awarded in March, and it's expected the bridge will open in autumn next year.

There has been considerable opposition to the project from local communities, particularly in Tillydrone, where compulsory purchase orders have been used to buy land for the new road.
