MP Ann Clwyd calls for inquiry over Cardiff hospital report

MP Ann Clwyd is calling for a public inquiry into what surgeons have called a "dangerous" situation at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.

A report by the Royal Cardiff of Surgeons (RCS) found patients die regularly at the hospital while waiting for heart surgery.

Patients, including children, have suffered because scheduled operations have been postponed.

The Cardiff and Vale University Health Board (CVUHB) says the situation is unacceptable and it is addressing the problems.

But Ms Clwyd, who is conducting a review into patients' complaints in England, said this was Wales' equivalent of the Stafford Hospital scandal where hundreds of patients were found to have died unnecessarily.

The Cynon Valley MP spoke to Oliver Hides on BBC Radio Wales and dismissed the health board's apology.
