Inquiry after man left 'critical' by police Taser incident

An inquiry has been launched after a man was left in a critical condition following the discharge of a police Taser in Conwy.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said North Wales Police responded to a "domestic disturbance" at Bryniau Court, Llandudno, at 22:15 BST on Wednesday.

An officer fired a Taser and a 24-year-old man then fell, suffering a serious head injury.

The force referred itself to the IPCC.

IPCC Commissioner for Wales, Jan Williams, said: "Where a man has sustained a serious injury during contact with police, it is right that we independently investigate to establish what happened.

"My thoughts are with the injured man's family with whom we are making contact to explain our role, and all those affected."

The IPCC said the man was treated at the scene by officers and paramedics before being taken to hospital. He is currently in a critical condition in hospital in Stoke.

An independent investigation will now be carried out, with initial accounts from officers and footage from police body cameras already gathered.
