The parents of a missing man, believed to have been murdered, say not knowing where he is a year since he disappeared is "killing" them.

Kyle Vaughan, 24, from Newbridge, Caerphilly county, was last seen on 30 December 2012.

His parents Alan and Mary Vaughan want the public to help them find their son's remains allowing them to grieve for him properly.

Three people are currently on police bail.

"We don't understand why he was murdered," Mr Vaughan said.

"All his friends are gutted, our family is totally devastated. The people who have hurt our son, or know what happened to our son, have not just killed our son but they're killing me and Mary."

On 30 December last year, his silver Peugeot 306 was found abandoned on the A467 near Risca. It had been in a collision, but it is not known whether he was driving it at the time.

Police believe Mr Vaughan, known to his friends as Jabbers, walked away from his car but it remains a mystery what happened to him after that.

A year on, his parents accept their son is dead and now want to bury him.

"It's going to be a very sad day but it's also going to be a happy day in respect that we can put something to rest, something to bed," Mr Vaughan said.

"We just need a bit of help from the public to help our son."

'Difficult and upsetting'

On Sunday, friends and family staged a walk and released balloons in Newport in his memory.

Det Ch Supt Peter Jones of Gwent Police said inquiries were still continuing.

"This is one of the most extensive investigations I have worked on, and being a year on without finding Kyle is obviously extremely difficult and upsetting for his friends and family," he said.

"This is very much still a live investigation and we remain fully committed to establishing exactly what happened to Kyle a year ago today.

"Someone out there will know what happened that night and I would urge them to come forward with any information they may have."
