Obama: 'Human trafficking is modern slavery'

US President Barack Obama has said human trafficking must be called "by its true name: modern slavery", in an address to the Clinton Global Initiative.

Speaking in New York, Mr Obama said he did not use the term "slavery" lightly, because of the painful chapter it evoked in US history.

He added that human trafficking was an "injustice" and an "outrage", and said: "It is barbaric and it is evil and it has no place in a civilised world."
