Shaun the Sheep has been named the best children's BBC TV character of the last 70 years in a Radio Times vote. Here he is with Blitzer the sheepdog...

The poll asked 410,000 people to vote for their favourite character from a shortlist of 50 BBC children's TV characters.

Even the legendary construction worker Bob the Builder couldn't beat Shaun, but he was named the favourite of the 1990's.

Shaun the Sheep has beaten the likes of Postman Pat in the vote.

Shaun the Sheep has pipped Sooty and Sweep to the post.

The farmyard favourite made his first appearance in the 1995 film Wallace and Gromit, before bagging his own CBBC show 12 years later.

Sheep celebrate with a ice cream scoop or two as the winners of the vote!

Pingu is NOT happy! Another classic TV character that Shaun shaved to the finishing post.
