If you've ever lost a special toy or cuddly companion, then you probably know it can be a stressful and upsetting time.

But, thankfully, for one three-year-old boy he was able to be reunited with his lost toy called Monkey - although not before it went on a 600-mile round trip without him.

The journey began when mum, Kayna, and her son were returning to their home in Bristol after visiting family in Rutland.

Travelling by train, they were asked to move carriages and the cuddly monkey, which the boy has had since he was born, was left behind.

Luckily the family realised soon after leaving the train and quickly reported it missing, but by this point the toy was already en-route to Edinburgh.

Customer service assistants Leon Allen and Vinny Murphy led a mission to track down the treasured toy and Monkey was recovered by train staff in Edinburgh - 384 miles away from his home.

Monkey was taken to lost property, but the adventure was far from over, after it took four different companies to get the toy home.

After travelling back down from Scotland to Birmingham, Kayna was able to pick up the well-travelled teddy at Bristol Temple Meads station the next day.

She said: "I can't thank everyone involved enough."

After all that, Monkey had clocked up an extra 619 miles (1,000 km) on top of what should have been a 155-mile (250 km) trip home.

But at least he had an adventure, with Network Rails saying it was a journey "Paddington would have been proud of".
