Oscars 2024: What's in the mysterious 'goody bags'?

When the biggest names in the movie industry leave the Academy Awards tonight, some will be taking home an Oscar, while the rest have to wear their gracious loser face.

But, before you start feeling too sorry for those not carrying one of the famous golden statues, you should know some of the nominees won't walk away empty handed.

Each year a free "goody bag", with items worth thousands of dollars, is put together by a marketing company to give to some of those shortlisted.

This year the bag includes a voucher for a $50,000 luxury holiday for 10 people to the Swiss Alps, a fridge containing 45 rare bottles of wine and a huge skincare haul.

What else is in this year's Oscars goody bag?

Earlier this year Distinctive Assets, the company that puts together the gifts, shared a list of the jaw-droppingly expensive presents.

According to the press release, the "Everybody Wins" bag includes a Caribbean holiday, an all-expenses paid spa trip and a decadent supply of popcorn.

Making sure the celebrities' pampered canines don't miss out, the hamper also includes a line of vegan dog treats and a pledge of more than 10,000 meals provided by a dog food company.

"We are humbled that our 'Everyone Wins' Nominee Gift Bag continues to garner worldwide media attention and spark conversation," the founder of Distinctive Assets said.

"While our gifts may be famous for being fun, fabulous and unique, they also serve to elevate small businesses, minority-owned brands, female entrepreneurs and companies who give back."

Despite the interest the bags often generate, the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences (Ampas) are keen they are not seen as the ones responsible for putting the goody bags together.

Included in their press release, Distinctive Assets wrote "[Ampas] does not award, sponsor, endorse or provide these gift bags."

Only a select few nominees at the Oscars will take home this swag bag, and due to the gifts being subject to tax laws, many of the celebs don't cash in on all the items.

But among those who will receive the gifts this year are Cruella star Emma Stone, Iron Man's Robert Downey Jr and Barbie stars Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera.
