Royal Family: Princess Charlotte turns nine with new birthday picture

A new photo of Princess Charlotte, taken by her mum Catherine, the Princess of Wales, has been released for her ninth birthday.

The photo was shared by Charlotte's parents on social media, just as they did for her younger brother, Prince Louis's sixth birthday last week.

The photo of the young princess shows her stood next to a clematis plant with pink petals.

The Princess of Wales typically takes photos of her family.

But, in March the princess apologised after a photograph of her and her children, released to mark Mother's Day, was withdrawn from picture agencies over concerns it had been digitally edited.

Following the release of the picture for Prince Louis's birthday last week, Kensington Palace said that the image had not been edited.

Catherine is currently receiving treatment for cancer and has stepped back from royal duties.

Last week, Prince William revealed his daughter Charlotte's favourite joke, while visiting a school in the West Midlands.He said: "Knock Knock". When pupils said "Who's there?" William replied: "Interrupting cow". As the group tried to say "interrupting cow who?" he said: "Mooo".
