Who do you think should win BBC Sports Personality of the Year?

The shortlist of six contenders has been announced and the winner will be revealed on Tuesday 17 December during the show on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

They'll join the likes of Mary Earps, Beth Mead and Emma Raducanu who have all won over the past three years.

Just months after finishing his GCSEs, Luke Littler made headlines after a wonderful run at the World Darts Championship. He was hoping to become darts' youngest ever world champion at just 16 but finished runner-up. Since then he's gone on to claim 10 trophies including becoming the youngest winner of a major PDC tournament with victory in the Premier League Darts. He's also in the running for Young Sports Personality of the Year.

Cricketer Joe Root made history in October by becoming England's record Test run scorer. He overtook Sir Alastair Cook's record of 12,472. He also broke Cook's record for the most Test centuries by an Englishman. He's made it to fifth on the all-time list of Test-run scorers.

Another gold medal winner has made the shortlist - this time from the velodrome. Sarah Storey is Britain's most successful Paralympian after adding two more gold medals to her collection at Paris 2024. That takes her total to 30 medals across her Paralympic career, 19 of which are golds and not all of them are in cycling.

This year, Alex Yee has been crowned both Olympic and world champion in triathlon. He won his first Olympic gold at Paris in the summer and was also part of the team that won bronze in the mixed relay. He also finally got his hands on the first world title of his career at the World Triathlon Series.

Other awards that will be presented on the night include Young Sports Personality of the Year, Team and Coach of the Year, the Unsung hero award, The Lifetime Achievement and World Sport Star - for those competing in sport outside of the UK.

The judging panel for this year's BBC Sports Personality of the Year came from the world of sport, broadcasting and journalism.

It included five-time Olympic cycling champion Dame Laura Kenny, ex-runner Iwan Thomas, Paralympian Ade Adepitan, former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha and Ireland rugby veteran Rory Best.
