New album gives Ed Sheeran top spot for UK chart number ones

It's a nine-time chart topping success for the singer

Ed Sheeran has reached the number one spot on the UK album charts for the ninth time in a row, putting him on the list of artists with the most UK number one albums ever.
The Official Charts Company, which ranks how many people stream and buy music in the UK, reported that Ed's latest album, Play, took the number one spot this week.
Every album that the singer has released since 2011's + has hit the top spot, with Play marking a brand new era for him.
The Official Charts Company says that only three other artists have ever achieved the nine-time number one feat.

Also holding the record are two groups from the 1990s - pop boyband Take That and rock band Stereophonics - and legendary singer-songwriter Bob Dylan.
After wrapping up his 'Mathematics' series of albums, which were titled with the symbols +, X, ÷, = and -, Ed Sheeran revealed that his new albums would also share a theme.
Beginning with Play, these would include titles like Pause, Fast Forward, Rewind and Stop.
Ed has also had 14 UK number one singles, but he'll need a few more if he wants to match the record held by rock and roller Elvis Presley who had 21.
