Liverpool have agreed a transfer fee of £125 million to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.

The deal, which is expected to be officially announced on Monday afternoon, will make the striker the most expensive player ever in Premier League history.

Isak is due to have a medical check on Monday ahead of signing a six-year deal with the Premier League champions.

The Sweden star was a big player for Newcastle last season, finishing as the club's top scorer with 27 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions.

Liverpool originally offered Newcastle £110m for Isak last month, but the north-east club rejected that offer.

However, the Reds increased their offer, which the Magpies have now accepted, with sources claiming the deal could be worth as much as £130m with add-ons.

The deal would overtake the current £107m British transfer record Chelsea paid for Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez two years ago.

Isak joined Newcastle from Spanish side Real Sociedad in 2022.

He quickly became a fan favourite and finished last season as the club's top scorer - and the second-highest top scorer in the Premier League, behind Mo Salah.

Isak helped the Magpies win the Carabao Cup in March - scoring as Newcastle beat Liverpool 2-1 in the final. It was their first domestic trophy win in 70 years.

Newcastle then went on to qualify for the Champions League by finishing fifth in the Premier League.

The summer transfer window for the Premier League closes on Monday 1 September, with clubs having until 7pm to sign any new players.
