Knobbly knees and turned-out toes …

He's got knobbly knees, turned out toes, a poisonous wart at the end of his nose...

For more than 20 years the Gruffalo has been roaming in the deep dark wood but now, he is back.

The famous character will return in 2026 in a new book by author Julia Donaldson.

The book will be the third of the Gruffalo's tales following the 1999 best selling original and the 2004 sequel The Gruffalo's Child.

As well as the original author being back on board, the book will also be illustrated by Axel Scheffler who illustrated the original book.

Donaldson said she was "delighted" that he will be working alongside her.

The first picture book sees a humble mouse encounter a range of animals including a fox, a snake and an owl in the deep dark wood.

The mouse then finally encounters the Gruffalo himself.

If you have read the book you will know what happens next.
