Beaver Moon photos from around the world

November's spectacular Beaver supermoon has appeared in our skies.
The Beaver Moon is the largest and brightest full moon of the year.
'Supermoon' is the name given to the Moon when it's both full, and at – or near – the closest point to Earth in its orbit.
There are normally twelve full moons and each one has a different nickname.
November's full moon is believed to be called Beaver Moon because it is when the animals start building their dens, though others say it is when Native Americans would set traps for beavers.

Photographers from around the world have been snapping some pretty amazing photos of this year's Beaver Moon.

Here's a photo of the Beaver Moon appearing above the Acropolis in Athens, Greece.
The Acropolis is an ancient Greek monument. It was inhabited as early as 4000 BC and was both a fortress and a religious centre, dedicated to the goddess Athena.
The term "acropolis" means "highest point of the city".

If you look closely between the leaves to the left of this picture and you can see the tiny spider hanging from a thread, backlit by the Moon.

The Beaver Moon rises behind New York City's famous Empire State Building
Once the tallest building in the world, the 443-metre Empire State Building now ranks as the 43rd tallest tower in the world and the fourth tallest building in New York.
Construction of the building began in 1930 and it was completed in 1931 after 13 months.
It is considered a symbol of New York City and is one of the most photographed buildings in the world so no wonder the photographer, Gary Hershon, captured the Beaver Moon rising behind it.

Saint Basil's Cathedral is an Orthodox church in Red Square of Moscow.
It was built between 1555 and 1561 by Ivan the Terrible in Moscow, Russia.
It's colourful towers have become one of the most striking symbols of Russia.
When seen from the top, the eight domes surrounding the ninth dome look a bit like a star.

Here you can see the Moon rising over Anitkabir in Turkey's capital, Istanbul.
It looks like a glowing marble sphere as it floats just above an urn.

This striking photo looks like something from space, but is actually a colourful streetlight providing the backdrop for the full moon in New Delhi, India.
