You might have heard of Fat Bear Week, but what about Fat Squirrel Week?

This year is the first time the competition has been held, with the organisers being inspired by the competition held earlier in the Autumn to find the fattest bear in Alaska.

This time they are aiming to find the fattest squirrel across all of the Texas State Parks.

And a squirrel nicknamed Chunkosaurus Rex from Dinosaur Valley State Park has been crowned the first ever winner.

The cheeky creature nutted its way to victory, after getting more votes than fellow-finalist Chunk Norris!

After the news was announced the park celebrated online, writing, "We appreciate all the support for Chunkosaurus Rex during this hard-fought battle."

In total 16 squirrels from 16 state parks were in the running for the title of Fat Squirrel Week Champ, but it wasn't all about weight, with heftiness, silliness, and charm also part of the criteria.

The contestants had fun names like Stanley "The Texas Tank", Twiggy Swift, and Nutella to help people identify them and their quirky personalities.

Fans were invited to like, comment or tag their friends on the Facebook page of the squirrel they wanted to win - with this then translating to votes.

As it's new, the competition didn't have as many contestants as Fat Bear Week, but the organisers want to grow it in future years.

Meridian State Park, which helped organize the event, has even told people to be "on the lookout for fat squirrels in the park" ahead of next year.

Which squirrel would have been your favourite? Let us know in the comments.
