Giant dolphin group 'were having a big party'

Sea wildlife experts have spotted the rare sight of a group of more than 1,500 dolphins having fun, leaping and splashing off the west coast of the USA.

The pod of Risso's dolphins was seen off the coast of Monterey, California, which is more famous as a whale-watching area.

"They were just having a great time. So they were breaching everywhere, tail slapping, coming right over to the boat. They looked like they were having a big party," said Colleen Talty from the Monterey Bay Whale Watch Center.

Her colleague Evan Brodsky added it was a "memorable encounter I won't forget for a long time."
