Plymouth Argyle have signed Bolton defender Oscar Threlkeld on loan.

The 20-year-old, who has played eight times for the Championship club, has agreed a deal to stay at Home Park until 2 January.

He is the third player to join the Pilgrims on loan this season following Crystal Palace's Hiram Boateng and Reading's Craig Tanner.

Argyle manager Derek Adams said earlier on Thursday that he expected to make one final loan signing this summer.

And, while Adams is happy to use the loan market, he feels that clubs should not be able to bring in players on a temporary basis once the transfer window closes.

"This is the difference between now and my time in Scotland," said the former Ross County manager. "In Scotland we worked to finish on Monday, whereas in England it's still open for the loan market.

"I don't agree with it. I think everybody should have their house in order before the start of the season and then move forward.

"The fairer system is everybody has the pool of players that they want at the start of the season. But make no mistake, if we're going to take a loan signing during the season, and the possibility of doing that is there, then we'll do it."
