Merrien must hope to win her final two group matches

Guernsey's Alison Merrien has dropped to fourth place in her group in the World Champion of Champions bowls.

The 2007 winner beat China's Yu Xiao Yan 11-2, 15-3 but lost to the Scottish champion Caroline Brown 11-5, 7-10, 0-5 in her second match on Thursday.

It means Merrien must win one of her last two games and hope for other results to go her way if she is to make the knockout stages.

She is due to play Japan's Nanami Yoshi and Macao's Pian Lai on Friday.

The group winner goes through to the semi-finals while the next two best placed bowlers face each other in a play-off for the second semi-final place.

The Philippines' Ainie Knight leads the way with Brown second and Australia's Riina Bradbrook third.
