Summary

  1. Round threepublished at 01:20 British Summer Time 2 June

    Wilder v Zhang

Zhang connects with a right hook as Wilder comes forward and the American is knocked backwards.

Not as much output from Zhang in this round as he just steers clear of Wilder's jab.

Much like the first round, it's a little underwhelming.

If this is going to be your last contest, go and give it everything. He knows if he misses with that right hand, he can get caught by Zhang's left hand.

    Wilder v Zhang

Deontay Wilder's corner are not holding back before sending him out for round three.

They tell the American not to be a punching bag. Pretty sound advice.

Wilder will just not pull the trigger or let that right hand go.

  5. Round twopublished at 01:15 British Summer Time 2 June

    Wilder v Zhang

A slow start again and then it bursts into life as Zhang backs Wilder into the corner.

Some heavy hands raining down on the American, left, right, left, right... it's not stopping.

Wilder looked hurt and trapped for a moment.

He's out to the centre and backed into another corner. He needs to avoid letting this become a theme of the fight.

Wilder is still just stabbing out that jab and he's yet to earn the respect of Zhang.

Zhang lands with a left and Wilder backs off again.

    A big round for Zhang.

It just seems like Wilder hasn't really got that passion anymore, he needs to find that again.

  7. Round onepublished at 01:11 British Summer Time 2 June

    Wilder v Zhang

    A tentative start.

I guess that's understandable when both fighters are wary of their opponents' power.

Wilder is dangling out the jab without any real intent, almost a little worried to get in range so early on.

Zhang close the distance and ends up leaning his huge frame on the American. He's told not to push Wilder down by the referee.

Very little action in the opening round.

Deontay Wilder has three losses on his record and they've come across his last four fights.

Zhilei Zhang has lost two of his last four.

Can either prove they still have what it takes to be at the top of the heavyweight division?

Thanks for staying with us. Off we go.

This one going the distance then?

Deontay Wilder rarely disappoints with his ring attire. He's wearing a gladiatorial, sparkly number. Very suave.

He's also got a glittery mask on.

Not sure what the song is but who cares? We just want to see these two giants get to business now.

What a song choice... 'Eye of the Tiger' by Survivor. I once played drums on this song in a band performance at school. Takes me right back.

Anyway, Zhang is in a lovely gold robe and raring to go.

For anyone who likes a game of five-a-side with their mates, you'll be familiar with an opposing team bringing in a 'ringer'.

That one player who definitely isn't there week-in-week-out but drops in from time to time and has a lot to offer.

American heavyweight Deontay Wilder is tonight's 'ringer' for team Matchroom.

Eddie Hearn has drafted in the former WBC heavyweight champion to be Matchroom's captain.

Once considered the most formidable puncher in the division, Wilder’s stock has dropped after a lacklustre loss against Joseph Parker in December.

Wilder is looking to bounce back against China's Zhilei Zhang, who also lost to Parker in his last outing.

Wilder spoke this week of his “warrior mindset” and promised a knockout, with captains’ points worth double, while Zhang - speaking through an interpreter - said the “Bronze Bomber is out of ammunition”.

    Strong words!

The Eddie Hearn v Frank Warren rivalry is a long read.

I won't bore you with all of the details, but it would be wrong not to bring you the key lines.

Frank Warren had strong hold on the British boxing scene until Hearn's father, Barry, who was largely focused on promoting snooker events, stepped in.

Barry capitalised when Warren was shot by a masked assailant in November 1989 and wealthy backers pulled their funding from the promoter.

Boxers jumped ship to Matchroom but Warren's resilience saw him fight back. He orchestrated the 1993 rematch between Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank and two years later signed a lucrative contract with broadcasters Sky.

History appeared to repeat itself years later when a fresh-faced Hearn Jr, who would listen to his father arguing with Warren on the phone, burst on to the scene and disrupted the market.

Armed with prospects including Kell Brook and Tony Bellew - who would later become world champions - Hearn signed an exclusive deal with Sky Sports in 2012 which lasted nine years.

As Warren and Hearn went about their business separately, fans and fighters suffered.

That all changed when energy-rich Saudi Arabia entered the boxing foray.

Now there was enough space - and money - for both Hearn and Warren to sit at the top table as Turki Alalshikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia's general entertainment authority, and Warren's son, Queensberry CEO George Warren, insisted on co-operation.

  20. 'AJ v Dubois possible for September'published at 00:56 British Summer Time 2 June

    Dubois beats Hrgovic by stoppage

Queensberry promoted Frank Warren to DAZN after beating Filip Hrgovic: "It means a lot to Dubois. There's been a lot said about his courage and he showed that tonight. Once he settled down, he did a lot of damage. I know what he's capable of, he's a good finish. The bell saved Hrgovic. He's 26 years old."

On potentially facing Anthony Joshua next?: "There's the possibility he could face AJ in September at Wembley. Will have to see where we stand at the end of the night."
