Close day two: Leicestershire 303-7 v Surrey 480

Leicestershire 3pts, Surrey 5pts

Leicestershire set about chasing a formidable Surrey first-innings total as they enjoyed a decent second day at Grace Road.

Paceman Rob Taylor (4-91) finally trapped Steven Davies leg before for 174 as Surrey were dismissed for 480.

The hosts were in trouble at 146-4 but Dan Redfern (52), Taylor (54) and Niall O'Brien (62 not out) all responded with half-centuries.

Spinner Gareth Batty took 3-34 as Leicestershire closed on 303-7.

Taylor continued his form from yesterday as he took the last two wickets in Surrey's first innings, dismissing Stuart Meaker (58) after seeing off Davies lbw as they added 77 to their overnight 403-8.

Batty's bowling suppressed the hosts in the latter stages of the day as he bowled both Taylor and Jigar Naik in the space of seven balls.

BBC London 94.9's Mark Church:

"Surrey's bowlers worked extremely hard on the second day with Gareth Batty taking two late wickets to keep the visitors in a good position at Grace Road.

"After Steven Davies was eventually dismissed for a magnificent 174, Surrey were all out for 480 with Stuart Meaker making a crucial 58.

"Leicestershire found themselves 193-5 after tea but Niall O'Brien and Rob Taylor then batted very well as they put on 99 for the sixth wicket.

"But Batty bowled Taylor for 54 and followed that up with the wicket of Jigar Naik just before the close.

"O'Brien is still there unbeaten on 62 and he holds the key for the hosts on how close they get to Surrey's first-innings total."
