Peter Gough has twice led Jersey to promotion to World Cricket League Division Four

Former Jersey captain Peter Gough could retire from international cricket.

Gough, 31, stepped down after Jersey were relegated from World Cricket League Division Four.

He first captained Jersey in 2010 and has been part of the island side since their first World Cricket League tournament in 2008.

"I'm going to take the winter to keep myself in good shape and work out what my next steps are, career-wise as well as cricket-wise," he said.

"Come February or March I'll work out what that looks like and work out whether it's realistic or not to be able to push on to the next couple of tournaments," he told BBC Radio Jersey.

The opening batsmen averaged 25.5 in his six innings in the Division Four event in Los Angeles, scoring a total of 153 runs with a top score of 65.

Gough says he was overwhelmed by the support he got from his teammates when he revealed that he was stepping down as captain.

"I'll leave with a very heavy heart, whenever that does happen," added Gough.

"My motivation to play is to play at as higher level as I can. If I play again next year I'll be wanting to play for Jersey really, so if I'm playing I'd want to keep doing it, if I can do a good enough role to be right for the team."
