England will have learned from their approach at the 50-over World Cup, where they were a bit stand-offish, a bit timid and not quite themselves.

If you are going to get knocked out of a tournament you want to have it on your own terms. You don't want to leave with regrets about how you approached it.

So even though this does feel like a pretty important game for England you don't feel they will go into their shells.

Australia captain Mitchell Marsh: "We were going bowl first too but hopefully we can get a good total and make the most of using the pitch first.

"It's a big carrot, isn't it [winning all three world titles], but everyone's here to win it. We're taking it one game at a time, starting with getting past England today.

"I'm a fairly laid back captain but I do get stressed, don't you worry! But I've got a great team to lead here, there's plenty of experience for me to lean on.

"We're not thinking of our recent form against England. We know it'll be a big challenge, a competitive game, but hopefully a win today will set us up well."

England captain Jos Buttler: "There's a short boundary one end but also we're not sure how the pitch will play, so I think it will be better to chase.

"These are really special days, a World Cup match against Australia. These are the games you play for and we're expecting a great one.

"There was a little bit to think about [after Scotland]. A few things we can tighten up, in the field we pride ourselves on our intensity so we want to put that right. But we've trained well and feeling good, it's a very exciting occasion.

"They're a top team but form doesn't count for much in one off games.

"We've got a great squad, lots of options, not just Reece, but we've gone for the same team today."

I'm slightly surprised England have chosen not to bring in Reece Topley. He averaged 19.8 in the powerplay against left-handed batters in all T20s since the last World Cup.

Australia have two of the best such batters as their openers in David Warner and Travis Head.

  6. England win the toss and bowl firstpublished at 17:37 British Summer Time 8 June

Jos Buttler gets his way, and doesn't hesitate in choosing to bowl first.

We'll have the team news for you shortly, but England are unchanged.

Australia have the chance to win all three men's ICC trophies, after winning the World Test Championship and the 50-over World Cup last year.

They are in form, and beat Oman in their opener, while England were washed out against Scotland.

There's nothing quite like England v Australia, is there?

The old enemies are ready to go in Barbados and crucially, it's not raining.
