At the moment England are so far away from what is required it's embarrassing. The worst thing is they don't seem to know.

  3. 'We were outstanding all-round'published at 21:57 8 June

Australia captain Mitch Marsh: "Very pleased with that effort. I thought our all-round game was outstanding, a good day.

The batting effort early on?: "That was the difference in the game, the way we started, all based around our trust in each other. The boys set the tone beautifully.

"We've got an experienced group and they have helped me learn things.

Australia's bowling?: "I've thought Patty was outstanding, it was tough to bowl, our guys stood up. An all-round great team performance.

The tournament so far: "It's a pretty good game. Keep learning in these conditions. Keep learning and keep progressing in this tournament."

  4. 'It was tough to drag it back after their start'published at 21:53 8 June

England captain Jos Buttler: "I thought they came out with a lot of intent and played really well and put us under a lot of pressure straight away. It was tough to drag it back from there. They bowled really well in that middle phase, took wickets at regular times and defended really well.

"There is always hindsight and a lot of decisions you can change or do earlier. There were a couple of soft balls where we could have saved boundaries."

On Jofra Archer: "He bowled really well. It looks like he hasn't been away at all. He is a great bowler to call on as a captain. He's got so much variety and skill and we're lucky to have him back."

On the chase: "We did have a bright start. Outside the powerplay was always going to be the challenge, we saw that in their innings. Credit to Australia, Adam Zampa bowled very well and in the middle overs the pacers were very disciplined to make us to the longer side."

On the rest of the tournament: "We need to play with a lot of confidence. It's all laid out what we need to do so we need to dust ourselves down and go again."

Here's how Group B looks after that 36-run win for Australia.

England now will likely have to win their final two games against Oman and Namibia which could set up a scenario where they need to rely on net run-rate to pip Scotland.

  6. 'We know a lot about England'published at 21:45 8 June

Player of the match, Adam Zampa: "We've played against England a lot, so we know a lot about their players. We've played here before and we knew about the long grease side. It was difficult to hit sixes out there and we made it our game plan.

"It is one of those places you don't know about until you bowl a few balls on, I was just keen to get some pace on and aim at the stumps.

"Some of the wickets around the West Indies, you can't sum up on the spot. Seeing how Rash (Adil Rashid) bowled and their spinners, as well as my bowling [showed that].

On his role in Australia's bowling attack: "We have a great depth with our bowling attack. We all have different roles and you saw some of us bowling really defensively to stop runs."

There are questions - and some pretty significant ones - for this England side.

It has been a bad outing for England. They haven't got much right from the moment the coin went up in the air for the toss.

There are a lot of questions for England to answer. They are not out but they are going to have to sharpen up if they are to convincingly beat Oman in their next game on 13 June.

  9. Australia beat England by 36 runspublished at 21:38 8 June
    Breaking

Harry Brook finds four with a thick edge, but it means very little as Australia win convincingly.

The Aussies batted brilliantly and as England's innings progressed, they really dominated with the ball too.

England really need big wins over Oman and Namibia to stand any chance of progressing from this group.

What a chance Scotland have against Oman on Sunday evening now.

My first question to Jos Buttler would be: "In hindsight, would you have have batted first?".

I was surprised that both sides wanted to bowl first.

    Target 202

A nice four from Harry Brook, but it feels a good five overs too late from him.

Just falls short of the rope at extra cover. A boundary for him.

England have clearly got his wrong. The first five overs opened the door to Australia not needing to take risks in the middle order and that is why they ended up getting up to 200.

They were able to just hit it around in the middle overs against Adil Rashid and not take any risks.

England were so far behind the eight-ball and it has seemed inevitable since then they would end up in this position.

  14. Eng 152-6published at 19 overs

    Target 202

England are at the point where any runs in this final over, but not a bonus.

Anything from here would be a bonus.

Marcus Stoinis will bowl the last.

That is the easiest of catches for Mitchell Starc.

That just about sums up England's day.

It was in vein, but Liam Livingstone goes to hit that all the way, picking out Mitchell Starc at long off.

This is turning into a very convincing victory for Australia.

If that had been anyone else it would have been quite straightforward.

  18. Brook dropped on 9published at 18.4 overs

    Eng 152-5

Adam Zampa almost takes a brilliant diving one-handed catch at short third man.

He gets a hand to it, but doesn't keep hold of it.

A reprieve for Brook, who has not got going today.

That is an exceptional spell of bowling from Adam Zampa.

At this stage it feels like England are playing to limit the damage to their net run-rate.

  20. Eng 148-5published at 18 overs

    Target 202

Adam Zampa's final over goes for 12, but he ends with figures of 2-28 and really, he seems to have been the turning point in this innings.

England need 54 off 12 balls to win. 27 an over is not mathematically impossible, but it feels as good as.
