    Curious innings again.

Originals were 34-1 after powerplay, thanks to a flying start from Phil Salt, but only scored 75 runs from the remaining 75 balls of the innings.

Phoenix's overseas seamers, Trent Boult and Adam Milne, only bowled 10 and five balls respectively, as Liam Livingstone focused on spin and Benny Howell's seam variations to get the most out of the pitch - until the pacier Chris Wood came into the attack late on and took two wickets.

Normally you'd say Phoenix were favourites, but it was a low-scoring women's match and Originals men struggled too.

To see how the second innings plays out, here's Elizabeth Botcherby.

It's only Phil Salt that got going. I'm sure the message in the Phoenix dressing room will be, go super hard in the powerplay and get ahead in this run chase.

It really is a strong position for Phoenix and the Originals will have to pull off something special to win this game.

  3. Originals 109-7published at 100 balls

Ish Sodhi, playing in his first match for Manchester Originals, to face the final ball of the innings.

Chris Wood strikes him on the pad and somehow the ball runs away for four leg-byes.

The seamer does ask for a review for the sake of it as there is one available, but the players are off the field by the time it's confirmed Sodhi was safe.

Still Wood, finishes with figures of 2-11 off 15 balls having only come on for the 81st ball.

  4. wicket

    Hartley lbw b Wood 11 (Originals 105-7)

Chris Wood does get a second wicket from the following delivery.

Crashing a ball into the pads of Tom Hartley - no-one's arguing with that one.

There will be a few fines going around after this Phoenix fielding display today and all the dropped catches.

  6. dropped catch

Currie dropped on onepublished at 98 balls

    A fourth drop!

Phoenix are still doing well despite all these spills.

Scott Currie cracks Chris Wood out square and Adam Milne doesn't pick it up coming off the rope.

  7. Originals 103-6published at 95 balls

Scott Currie to the crease - he takes a single to cover from his first ball.

Chris Wood is going to carry on and take the final set.

Heinrich Klaasen never really got going, did he? Those boundaries upped his strike-rate a little and made his score look better.

It's clearly a tricky surface out there. It's starting to grip a little bit at Old Trafford.

  9. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 93 balls

    Klaasen c Mousley b Wood 34 (Originals 102-6)

Straight up in the air... taken at mid-on.

Heinrich Klaasen hits consecutive twos off Chris Wood's first two balls, but is dismissed from the seamer's third.

He skies the shot and Dan Mousley takes a comfortable catch.

The Originals have to keep Heinrich Klaasen on strike. They have to deal in twos here.

Heinrich Klaasen is cutting a frustrated figure in the middle. If he can't time it, then it probably proves it's not easy out there.

That was very clever and brave bowling by Liam Patterson-White.

  13. Originals 98-5published at 90 balls

    Consecutive fours for Tom Hartley!

He reverses Liam Patterson-White's second ball through short third and then sends the follow-up through square after advancing down the pitch.

Patterson-White closes with two dot balls to end his bowling day with figures of 1-18.

  14. Originals 89-5published at 85 balls

A couple more singles off the remainder of the set.

Will we see some acceleration from Originals from here?

They can hardly leave it much later...

  15. dropped catch

Hartley dropped on 0published at 83 balls

    A third drop for Phoenix!

Seamer Chris Wood gets a set late in the innings and Tom Hartley smacks him towards Ben Duckett at mid-off.

Duckett gathers towards his chest diving forward, but the ball bounces out - Hartley takes a single to get off the mark.

  16. Originals 85-5published at 80 balls

Tom Hartley, in the side at late notice after Lewis Gregory's warm-up injury, doesn't score off Benny Howell's last delivery.

That's the last of the medium-pacer, who finishes with figures of 1-17 as we head into a strategic time-out.

Birmingham Phoenix will be happy if Heinrich Klaasen faces as little of these remaining deliveries as possible.

I'm afraid to say that's a bit of an aimless hack from Matty Hurst.

    Backs away... gets bowled.

Matty Hurst tries to slash Benny Howell into the off side and misses the delivery entirely, seeing it hit his leg stump.

I feel like the Originals will want 130 runs, give themselves something to aim for. It feels like it's easier to score runs up top with the new ball.

We're starting to see the surface spin right now.
