  • Duckett (49 not out) anchors Phoenix to victory

  • Klaasen top-scores for Originals with 34

  • Both teams already eliminated

  1. dropped catch

Hurst dropped on fourpublished at 77 balls

    Originals 84-4

A second drop for Liam Livingstone.

Matty Hurst chips Benny Howell into the leg side and Liam Livingstone can't hold on with a dive at mid-wicket.

    Hurst takes a single.

  2. Originals 83-4published at 75 balls

Four more for Heinrich Klaasen, neatly reverse sweeping Liam Livingstone.

That's followed by a bit of fun between the bowler and his county team-mate Matty Hurst - he pulls out of his delivery, then the batter steps away in the run-up with a grin.

Livingstone is done with figures of 2-11 from his 20 balls.

It certainly doesn't look like wicket where you can come in and hit boundaries straight away.

It feels like you've got to start accumulating before you can hit it over the ropes.

Spinners have averaged 3.4° of turn so far today, the highest for a men's Hundred match this season and the fourth highest for a match in the history of the Hundred.

How can Heinrich Klaasen go from looking like he couldn't hit the ball at all to looking like he's hitting a beach ball?

It shows the margin for error from the bowler when you're playing against these batters is so small.

  6. 6 runs

    Originals 77-4published at 70 balls

    That'll help Heinrich Klaasen's numbers!

He finishes Jacob Bethell's set with a six and four - punctuated by a wide.

He lifts the Phoenix spinner into the stands at mid-wicket - where's taken well by a spectator - and then lashes the next ball through a similar area.

That takes him toa healthier 22 from 26 balls.

Only once before has Heinrich Klaasen started an innings as slowly as he has today - he also only scored 6 off his first 15 deliveries for South Africa A against Zimbabwe back in 2022.

Benny Howell is all over Heinrich Klaasen here. He's hit a lovely length and is consistent with that knuckle ball.

  9. Originals 64-4published at 65 balls

Heinrich Klaasen takes two off Benny Howell's first ball, working it into mid-wicket.

He's on 11 from 22 balls and struggling at the minute.

When you look down that Birmingham Phoenix battling line up it's great.

I would say right now Phoenix are on top but I got it so wrong in the last one, so you never know.

  11. Originals 60-4published at 60 balls

Liam Patterson-White sends down four dot balls to Heinrich Klaasen before the South African can take a single behind square.

The spinner is having an excellent Hundred debut - he's on 1-9 from 15 balls.

  12. Originals 59-4published at 55 balls

Matty Hurst is the new batter for Originals.

He faces two balls without scoring, then takes a single into the covers off Livingstone's final ball.

It's so clever how Liam Livingstone can switch between the two bowling spin disciplines.

He's hit the right area there to get Rachin Ravindra.

  14. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 52 balls

    Ravindra c Bethell b Livingstone 13 (Originals 58-4)

    Big leading edge!

Rachin Ravindra tries to whip Liam Livingstone into the leg side but instead sees the ball balloon up to Jacob Bethell at cover for the simplest of catches.

Originals still can't build a partnership.

That was slightly too predictable from Benny Howell. It's a knuckle ball into the pitch and it sat up quite nicely for Rachin Ravindra.

This partnership is needed. They'll try and bat for another 10 balls before one of them takes the initiative and will take the game on.

Heinrich Klaasen has not set the world alight in this competition so far, though.

  16. 6 runs

    Originals 57-3published at 50 balls

    Fifty up with a six!

Rachin Ravindra shows his older partner how it's done, slamming Benny Howell's third ball over the mid-wicket ropes.

  17. Originals 47-3published at 45 balls

Benny Howell into the attack and he bowls four singles before Heinrich Klaasen can take a single to long-off from the final ball.

The big hitter has just three from his first 10 balls.

  18. Originals 46-3published at 40 balls

Liam Livingstone takes a second set of five deliveries, with just two singles coming from them.

A rebuilding job to be done by the two overseas Originals batters, Rachin Ravindra of New Zealand and Heinrich Klaasen of South Africa (albeit the latter is now retired from international cricket).

Meanwhile Benny Howell is going to take a second set of five deliveries.

  19. Originals 44-3published at 35 balls

Heinrich Klaasen is next up for Manchester Originals and he takes a single off his second ball, sending it into the covers.

That was an ugly mess, that whole thing. Jos Buttler gets himself in a tangle, as well.

I don't think I've seen that before from the umpire when he goes to put his finger up and puts it down.
