    Nope, Root survives.

Banged in and it cuts Root in two, moving between bat and body.

The ball just brushes the batter's jumper, which is presumably what prompted the appeal.

    And now another caught behind?

Has Will O'Rourke nabbed Joe Root for a golden duck?

    Bethell falls in the nineties!

The 21-year-old is denied a first Test century, clipping a fairly innocuous Southee ball to the wicketkeeper while attempting a drive.

He'd moved past his first-class high score of 93 from the previous delivery, moving the ball through third for four.

But he'll have to wait a little longer to reach three figures.

A touch more turn for Phillips, who draws a waft out of Duckett and then sees the opener pop the ball in the air towards point - but there's no catcher there.

    There's your boundary!

England take three identical singles to mid-on off Phillips, before Bethell unleashes on the fourth ball of the over.

It's a touch short, and he crashes it over the boundary at mid-wicket for six.

A driven single down to long-off moves him to 86.

  13. Eng 166-1published at 32 overs

Sorry Rob, England's pair take just a couple of singles from the first two balls of Henry's over.

Here comes Matt Henry, who was superb for New Zealand in England's first innings.

A Duckett knock into the leg side brings from the first ball of the over brings up the tourists' 150, before Henry strikes Bethell on the pad and appeals.

It looks to be heading down leg and Henry doesn't sustain his claim for very long.
