With Woakes' record at Lord's and Root looking in serious nick, England will be declaring sometime tomorrow afternoon on 500+ for 5. You heard it here first.

    Cheers, Mike.

This feels like a Big Session. 270 all out justifies Sri Lanka's decision at the toss, but if they tire and England pass 300 with a Joe Root ton, we'll be saying it's a stinker.

    Let's find out.

Almost time to get back out there.

Here's Ffion Wynne to guide you through the next section of the day's play.

Prabath Jayasuriya has bowled exceptionally straight today - 58% of his deliveries would have gone on to hit or clip the stumps, the highest figure for any of his 14 Tests.

I've just been for a wander around the concourses, where you can see the Lord's Father Time Wall, which showcases the 100 greatest milestones witnessed at the ground. Above and below the said milestones are contributions from members of the public (priced between £300-£400, with a £50 discount if your plaque has a restricted view!). Most mention names of people who clearly hold Lord's very dear to their heart. Then there's this one...

Having seen said delivery on a well-known video sharing website, I can confirm there wasn't much to see, Charles - from memory the delivery was tucked off his hips in rather run-of-the-mill style by Craig Kieswetter.

Despite the fast falling wickets, if Root can make it into the 150s and England into the 300s, it'll be a great first day. Just can't rely on Root too often.

103 runs for England from 29 overs in the session, for the loss of Harry Brook and Jamie Smith.

Joe Root sits unbeaten on 80 as he looks to bring up his 33rd Test century, equalling Alastair Cook's record for England.

It has, they'll go off for a stretch and a cup of tea before coming back out to try and take a couple more.

England are under a little bit of pressure.

I think it's fair to say that Sri Lanka's gamble has paid off.

    Root 80, Woakes 4

Lahiru Kumara returns for one over before tea.

Woakes cracks him away for two through the covers, bringing up England's 200.

And that's the interval - another solid session for Sri Lanka.

  11. How's stat?!published at 15:41 British Summer Time 29 August

    Joe Root has a better average against Sri Lanka than any other Test nation - averaging almost 66. His last 10 scores are: 124, 46, 7, 228, 1, 186, 11, 42, 62*, 82*

Well, that's a rather nice way to get off the mark.

Chris Woakes gets a fair bit of bat on the first ball of Jayasuriya's over, hefting him for four through long-on.

The Sri Lanka spinner reels off five dot balls in response.

Rathnayake maiden to Joe Root, by the way.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone, Phil.

I once filled Alec Stewart's back bedroom with a gigantic shoal of krill.

For two weeks he had to fend off blue whales coming up the M3 to have a chow.

    Absolutely ruined the carpets.

Milan Rathnayake gets his reward with the wicket of Jamie Smith. He's been sticking at his task like a hamster on a wheel, 51% of his deliveries on a good line and length - the most of any Sri Lankan seamer. Nothing surprising - 48% of his balls have been on a good line and length across the series, the most of any bowler on either side.

  18. Eng 193-5published at 50 overs

Root moves into the eighties with a single off Jayasuriya's first ball, new batter Chris Woakes sees off the rest of the over without scoring.

Sri Lanka's seamers have bowled really well. We spoke about the toss, and it was a gamble, but they have been very disciplined.

They look like they've been bowling on the Lord's slope for years.

There were two casual shots from Jamie Smith before that wicket.

A loose pull shot, an aerial one through mid-wicket and that was just a wafting drive.
