It would have been a very good catch but that's a definite opportunity missed for Sri Lanka.

Two fours through deep third for Joe Root, one glorious, one slightly fortuitous.

He times Rathnayake's second ball beautifully to the ropes, but his shot from the final delivery only just evades the fielder at gully.

That's probably the streakiest shot we've seen from Joe Root so far. It was not far away from off stump.

Almost chopped on!

Root inside edges Rathnayake's first delivery and it just about misses the stumps, scudding away for a four at fine leg.

The seamer then goes up for lbw against Root off the final ball of the over, but Sri Lanka don't review - good decision, impact was outside the line.

And there's the scoring shot!

Smith is brought back onto strike against Jayasuriya and immediately lashes the Sri Lanka spinner through the covers for four.
